Leaf Separator Guard for Square or Round Downpipes
This Leaf Separator from 3P Technik removes leaves and other debris that have travelled down your downpipe before they enter your waterbutt or drainage system. It comes complete with adapters to suit 65mm square downpipes and round downpipes from 68mm to 110mm (outer dimension).
The downpipe leaf trap is easily installed at a height convenient for leaf removal from time to time - no more standing on ladders to reach the guttering. It ejects leaves, moss, twigs and other debris from the downpipe and allows the cleaned water to continue down the guttering.
This device is popular where people want to filter out leaves, moss, twigs and other larger particles before soakaways, underground pipework, drains to guard against blockages. Can also be installed before waterbutts that are fed from directly into the top of the water butt from the downpipe (like the Wall Mounted Waterbutt), so that sludge doesn't build up at the bottom of the water storage tank.
The Green Lid can be closed when desired. It is for use during extreme weather conditions (when daytime temperatures are below around -5oC). It allows the downpipe filter to be closed so that a frozen water does not collect in the downpipe and therefore block the downpipe. See Installation Instructions (below) for more info.
This leaf guard can be installed at any suitable height to allow for the discharged leaves, moss and twigs. So no more standing on ladders to reach the gutter to unblock the downpipe. The filter section is also detachable for occasional cleaning (if necessary).
Once cut, the downpipe simply slots into the Leaf Separator. The internal dimension of the top of the Leaf Separator is 107mm (see photo), easily fitting UK 4" downpipes. Downpipe brackets may have to be repositioned to. The UK adaptor can be fitted at the bottom of the unit to ensure a good fit with smaller downpipes too.
Note: The adaptor is round not square. When using with a square downpipe, the round adaptor simply slots into your square downpipe, there will be gaps in the corners, but that will not effect the water flowing into the downpipe.

Effective solution to prevent hopper overflow and drain blockage
We had a filter in a hopper to collect leaves and moss to prevent blockage of our drain and soakaway. However the filter would systematically fill up under heavy rain and rainwater overflow eroding the stone of the wall. With the leaf separator in place, we could remove the hopper filter, and have no more overflows and no need to climb up a ladder to clean the filter.

Great idea, well made easy to fit
Suggestion of an improvement is to supply a rubber boot for the top as this finishes it off very well .
